TSLP is a 132aa secreted haemopoietic cytokine which shares biological properties with interleukin-7 (IL-7), including involvement in B-cell development, and the activation and phosphorylation of STAT3 and STAT5.
TSLP is expressed in the heart, liver and prostate and functions through binding to a receptor complex consisting of the TSLPR (thymic stromal lymphopoietin receptor) and the IL-7R alpha chain.
Properties attributed to TSLP include the induction of monocytes to release T cell-attracting chemokines, enhancing the maturation of CD11c(+) dendritic cells and their ability to stimulate T cells, and strong evidence suggests that TSLP plays a pivotal role in allergic immune responses.
