Interleukin10, an 18.5kD immunosuppressive cytokine originally known as cytokine synthesis inhibiting factor (CSIF), which specifically regulates immunemediated, inflammation and shareshigh sequence homology with murine IL10 and the viral protein BCRF1.
IL10, produced by macrophages, mast cells, T cells, activated B cells and keratinocytes, inhibits the secretion of avariety of proinflammatory cytokines including TNFalpha, IL1, IL2, IL3 and IL8 and is chemotactic for CD8+ T cells.
The suppressive ability of IL10 has become a focus area for the treatment of Crohn’s disease, but with conflicting results.
