Spinophilin/Neurabin-II has been found to be enriched at the postsynaptic density fraction in the brain and in the adherens junction fraction in rat liver.
Within the brain, Spinophilin/Neurabin-II is localized in the heads of dendritic spines.
Spinophilin/Neurabin-II contains a single PDZ domain in the middle region of the protein and other domains that predict it will form a coiled-coil structure at the C-terminus.
Spinophilin/Neurabin-II is known to complex with the catalytic subunit of protein phosphatase I (PP1) and in vitro is a potent modulator of PP1 enzymatic activity.
Spinophilin/Neurabin-II is also known to interact with F-actin and rat lin-10.
