Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) is a member of the RUNX family of transcription factors.
RUNX2 has an Runt domain and can bind DNA both as a monomer or as a subunit of a heterodimeric complex.
RUNX2 has a role in osteoblastic differentiation and skeletal morphogenesis and is essential for the maturation of osteoblasts and both intramembranous and endochondral ossification.
RUNX2 is specifically expressed in the nucleus of osteoblasts.
3 isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
