P2Y1 is a Purinergic Receptor that causes a change in platelet shape and potentially leads to platelet aggregation by binding ADP, which results in the mobilization of intracellular calcium ions via activation of phospholipase C.
This receptor also mediates the release of the relaxing factor nitric oxide and may be involved in the modulation of neuronal signal transmission.
