NADPH oxidases (NOXs) catalyze the transfer of electrons from NADPH to molecular oxygen to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS).
The NOX activator NOXA1 can stimulate both NOX1 (MIM 300225) and NOX2 (CYBB; MIM 300481), but it appears to be more effective in activating NOX1 (Opitz et al., 2007 [PubMed 17189823]).[supplied by OMIM].
