Kir6.2/Kcnj11, an ATP sensitive inwardly-rectifying potassium channel, was originally isolated from an insulinoma library.
Actual conductance requires association with the sulfonylurea receptor.
This receptor is inhibited by sulfonylureas and activated by diazoxide.
Mutations in the KNCJ11 gene are found in patients with permanent diabetes mellitus of infancy and hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia.
It is thought that this channel couples metabolism to membrane electrical events fibringing about insulin secretion.
Applications:Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry.
Other applications not tested.
