c-Jun is a component of the transcription factor activator protein 1 (AP-1) that binds to and activates transcription at TRE/AP-1 elements.
Phosphorylation of c-Jun at Ser 63/73, resulting in activation and c-Jun dependent transcription, occurs in response to extra or intracellular signals, including UV irradiation, growth factors and transforming oncoproteins.
