LKB1 is a serine-threonine protein kinase and member of the calcium calmodulin family.
LKB1 acts as a tumor suppressor and plays an important role in the regulation of many cellular processes.
It is expressed in all tissues including pancreatic, liver, testicular, cardiac, and skeletal muscle tissue.
Mutations in LKB1 result from unregulated cell growth and tumor formation that are associated with Peutz-Jehgers syndrome.
