Serpin B8 is a 42-45kD, cytoplasmic and secreted member of the ovalbumin (clade B)-subfamily, Serpin superfamily of protease inhibitors.
It is produced by multiple cell types and shows inhibitory activity towards furin and possibly other proteinases such as chymotrypsin.
Mouse Serpin B8 is 374aa in length.
Although it has no signal sequence, it is likely to be released by platelets.
The active inhibitory site lies between Arg336 and Arg342.
One potential isoform shows a 4aa substitution for the C-terminal 133aa.
Full length mouse Serpin B8 shares 78% and 91% aa identity with human and rat Serpin B8, respectively.
