GTP-binding protein Rit2 (Rit2; also Rin, Ras-like protein expressed in neurons, Ras-like without CAAX) is a 25kD member of the small GTPase superfamily and Ras family.
Human Rit2 is 217aa in length.
Like all small G-proteins, Rit2 contains five highly conserved domains (G1-G5) and acts as a molecular switch by alternating an active GTP-bound form and an inactive GDP-bound form.
There are two isoforms for Rit2.
Isoform 1 is the long form.
Isoform 2 has an 11aa substitution for residues 143-153 found in isoform 1 and a deletion of aa154-217.
Rit2 is expressed exclusively in neurons.
In addition, Rit2 binds calmodulin through a C-terminal binding motif.
