Nuclear RNA export factor 1 is encoded by the NXF1 gene.
The protein expressed by this gene is one member of a family of nuclear RNA export factor gene.
The Nuclear RNA export factor 1 protein is involved in export of mRNA species bearing retroviral constitutive transport elements (CTE) from the nucleus as well as in the export of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm.
This protein is localized predominantly in the nucleoplasm at both the nucleoplasmic and cytoplasmic faces of the nuclear pore complex.
However, this protein shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm and binds in vivo to poly(A) RNA.
This protein is present in the nuclear Y14 complex and has been shown to interact with Aly/REF.
