PTP sigma, n R2B/LAR receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase, is composed of immunoglobulin and fibronectin type-III repeats, a single transmembrane domain and two intracellular catalytic phosphatase domains.
PTP sigma has been shown to affect neuronal development and differentiation, proliferation and/or adhesiveness of various cell types in the developing hypothalamo-pituitary axis, development of lung epithelium, and differentiation and development of the neuroendocrine system.
Mice lacking PTP sigma exhibit increased neuronatal fatality, stunted growth, developmental delays and severe neurological defects including spastic movements, tremor, ataxic gait, abnormal limb flexion and defective proprioception.
Increased expression of PTP sigma may be of pathogenetic significance for the defective insulin secretion in GK rat islets.
Two alternatively spliced protein isoforms of PTP sigma have been documented in humans, and the shorter isoform (1502aa) has been shown to expressed strongly in the brain.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry.
