Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved gene with homologs found in organisms ranging from yeast to man.
The gene was first identified in resting, mammalian cells.
It has antiproliferative activity and is also involved in diverse processes as normal cell cycle regulation, replicative senescence and cellular immortalization.
The 30kD protein has been located in the inner membrane of mitochondria, where it is postsynthetically modified, as well as on the plasma membrane of B cells, where it is associated with the IgM receptor.
The protein is also found in the nucleus, where it has been reported to bind the retinoblastoma protein and function as a novel regulator of E2F activity.
Mutations in the prohibitin gene cause sporadic breast tumors.
In rats the protein inhibits entry into S phase of the mitotic cell cycle.
Applications:Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Immunohistochemistry (Formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 1:50Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
