Exocrine organs produce various secretions, each with its characteristic function.
Proteins found in secretions may be divided into two groups: those specific for the particular secretion, and plasma proteins independent of the type of exocrine cells.
Lactoferrin belongs to the first group.
It is an iron containing protein with a molecular weight of 75000 and it is antigenically different from transferrin.
Lactoferrin has a slight antimicrobal action.
Originally identified in milk, its presence has also been demonstrated in other secretions as saliva, semen and tears.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunoelectrophoresis, Single and Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Mancini, Ouchterlony).
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Immunoelectrophoresis: 120ul against 2ul monkey serumSingle Radial Immunodiffusion: 1% in gelDouble Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony): Use a rosette arrangement with 10ul in a 3mm diameter center well and 10ul in 3 mm diameter peripheral wells

Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C.
Stable for 12 months at -20°C.
Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
