Haptoglobin is an acute phase protein synthesized in the liver.
In immunoelectrophoresis it has an alpha-2 mobility.
It forms a group of heterogeneous proteins consisting of four peptide chains, two alpha and two beta chains.
The molecular weight is about 86000.
Haptoglobin combines with haemoglobin and is then rapidly catabolized.
Concentration is elevated in cases of inflammation and reduced in liver disease and haemolytic anaemia.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunoelectrophoresis and Radial Immunodiffusion.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:Immunoelectrophoresis: 120ul against 2ul or equivalent Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony): Use a rosette arrangement with 10ul in a 3mm diameter center well and 2ul serum samples (neat and serially diluted) in 2mm diameter peripheral wells

Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C.
Stable for 12 months at -20°C.
Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Specificity:Recognizes porcine haptoglobin. In immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony) against fresh normal swine plasma a single precipitin line is obtained which shows a reaction of identity with the precipitin line obtained with purified haptoglobin. No reaction is obtained with any other plasma protein component or serum. Does not crossreact with bovine, feline, chicken, canine, duck, guinea pig, hamster, equine, human, monkey, mouse, pigeon, rat, sheep or turkey.
