C5 component of human complement is a plasma protein consisting of two polypeptide chains, a, b, bound by disulphide bonds.
It has a molecular weight of 190kD.
The activated protein forms with the complement factors C6-C9 the membrane attack complex.
The average concentration in plasma is about 70ug/ml.
Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunoprecipitation, Immunoelectrophoresis and Double Radial Immunodiffusion.
Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilutions:Immunoelectrophoresis: 2ul or equivalent against 120ul anti-serum .
Double Radial Immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony): 10ul Use a rosette arrangement with 10ul in a 3mm diameter center well and 2ul serum samples (neat and serially diluted) in 2mm diameter peripheral wells.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C.
Stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C.
Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O.
Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Store at -20°C.
For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Specificity：Recognizes human C5. In immunoelectrophoresis and radial immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony) against fresh normal human plasma a single precipitin line is obtained which shows a reaction of identity with the precipitin line obtained with purified C5 protein. No reaction is obtained with any other plasma protein component or serum.
