RGS19 is a member of the RGS protein family, which acts as a GTPase-activating protein (GAPs) for heterotrimeric G proteins, increasing the intrinsic rate of GTP hydrolysis and accelerating signal termination.
It is a small protein that contains two potential phosphorylation sites for protein kinase C and seven for casein kinase 2.
The gene for RGS19 is localized on human chromosome 20q13.33.
RGS19 specifically controls signaling of the Wnt-catenin pathway.
The protein is highly expressed in human lung, liver, heart and placenta.
