IPP-1 is a type 1 serine/threonine specific protein phosphatase inhibitor belonging to the protein phosphatase inhibitor 1 family.
IPP-1 has multiple domains that target cellular PP1 complexes and establishes it as a cellular regulator of eIF2alpha phosphorylation.
IPP-1 becomes active only after phosphorylation of a threonine residue by cAMP-dependent protein kinase.
It is a selective inhibitor of protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) and regulates several PP1-dependent signaling pathways, including cardiac contractility and regulation of learning and memory.
It is a widely expressed regulatory protein known to play an important role in hormonal control of glycogen metabolism.
