OCT1/OTF1 is a protein belonging to the POU domain of transcription factors.
OCT1, Octamer binding transcription factor 1, binds to an octamer motif (5'-ATTTGCAT-3') and activates the promoters of the genes for some small nuclear RNAs (snRNA) and of genes for immunoglobulins.
POU domain proteins contain a bipartite DNA-binding domain, which is divided by a flexible linker that enables them to adopt various monomer configurations on DNA.
The versatility of POU protein operation is conferred at the dimerization level.
POU dimer from the OCT1 gene formed on the palindromic OCT factor recognition element, or PORE, could recruit the transcriptional coactivator OBF1.
This octamer sequence within immunoglobulin promoters are sufficient for lymphoid-specific promoter activity in lymphoid cells.
OCT1 regulate the expansion and/or maintenance of mature B cells.
In its absence mature B-cell pull is strongly reduced.
