NPFF2, a 60kD transmembrane protein, is a G-protein coupled NPFF receptor & shares homology with the seven trans-membrane domain receptor super family.
It has a tissue-restricted distribution and consists of a 147-residue-N-terminal domain, 7 transmembrane domains and a C-terminal domain.
It binds NPFF and might play a role in pain modulation and opiate tolerance.
Reports suggest NPFF2 binds Prolactin releasing peptide and mediates its signaling.
Northern Blot analysis detected a high expression of NPFF2 transcript in placenta, testis, thymus and small intestine with a moderate expression in other tissues.
