CSRP2 (Cysteine-rich protein 2/CRP2; also Cysteine and Glycine-rich protein 2, LMO-5 and SmLIM) is a 21-22kD member of the CRP family of LIM domain-containing proteins.
It is expressed in arterial smooth muscle, hepatic stellate cells and fibroblasts.
CSRP2 is upregulated by TGF-b and downregulated by PDGF, and appears to interact with PIAS1 and CRP2-BP, thus promoting STAT signaling.
It also binds to SRF and GATA4 to initiate smooth muscle differentiation.
Human CSRP2 is 193aa in length and contains two 50aa LIM (for lin11/isl1/mec3) domains that contain two zinc-finger motifs (aa10-61 and 119-170), an NLS between aa64-69, and a Gly-rich C-terminus (aa176-187).
Full-length human CSRP2 shares 79% aa identity with human CSRP1.
