Receptor Associated Protein 80 (RAP80) is a 79.8kD nuclear acidic protein.
RAP80 acts as a transcriptional repressor, inhibiting the interaction of NR6A1 with the co-repressor NCOR1.
Studies have demonstrated that RAP80 is recruited by CCDC98 to BRCA1 allowing the formation of BRCA1 foci in response to DNA damage caused by ionizing radiation.
Along with CCDC98, RAP80 is required for DNA damage resistance, G2-M checkpoint control and DNA repair.
RAP80 is highly expressed by germ cells of the testis and is also expressed in the ovary, thymus and heart.
Research has shown the existence of at least four isoforms of RAP80.
