Secretogranin-3 (SCG3) belongs to the chromogranin/secretogranin family of neuroendocrine secretory proteins.
The protein is expressed in brain, heart, kidney, liver and skeletal muscle but the function of SCG3 is largely unknown.
Genetic variations in the SCG3 gene have been suggested to influence the risk of obesity through possible regulation of hypothalamic neuropeptide secretion.
