Checkpoint homolog CHK2 is an important cell cycle checkpoint regulator.
The protein is rapidly activated by phosphorylation in response to DNA damage and to replication block.
When activated, CHK2 is known to prevent entry into mitosis and has been shown to regulate the tumor suppressor protein p53, leading to cell cycle arrest in G1.
At least 12 isoforms are produced by alternative splicing.
