Protein kinase C zeta (PKCz) is a 70kD member of the PKC family of serine/threonine kinases.
PKCz is a member of the atypical PKC subfamily and has been widely implicated in the regulation of many cellular functions.
PKCz activation is involved in the mitogen-activated protein kinase cascade, transcriptional factor NFkB activation, ribosomal S6-protein kinase signalling, and cell polarity.
PKC zeta may be a potential therapeutic target in asthma, and may have a putative role in other pulmonary diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer
