Heat shock protein (HSP40) serves as a molecular chaperone.
It consists of 340 amino acids and is involved in protein folding, the assembly and disassembly of protein complexes, renaturation of denatured proteins, prevention of protein aggregation, and protein export.
HSP40's J domain interacts with HSP70, stimulating ATPase activity.
The HSP40 protein also stimulates the association between HSC70 and HIP.
