• Opioid receptors are G-protein coupled receptors.
• Although the function of k-opioid receptors is unclear, recent evidence indicates that activation of the k-opioid receptor opposes a variety of mu-opioid receptor mediated actions throughout the brain and spinal cord.
• In general, opioids modulate numerous central and peripheral processes, including pain perception, neuroendocrine secretion and the immune response.
• The opioid signal is transduced from receptors through G proteins to various different effectors.
• Subsequent to G protein activation, several effectors are known to orchestrate the opioid signal.
• For example, activation of opioid receptors increases phosphatidylinositol turnover, activates K+ channels and reduces adenylyl cyclase and Ca++ channel activities.
• Applications:Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunocytochemistry.
• Other applications not tested.
• Recommended Dilutions:Western Blot: 1:1500 (Whole rat brain homogenate)Immunocytochemistry: 1:5000 (Stains specific cells in various regions of PLP-fixed rat brain sections known to express the kappa opioid receptor.
• These include the nucleus accumbens, olfactory tubercule, caudate putamen and portions of the amygdala.

• Storage and Stability:Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C.
• Stable for 12 months at -20°C.
• Reconstitute with sterile PBS, 10mg/ml BSA.
• Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
• Store at -20°C.
• Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C.
• For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
• Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
