The D3 subtype inhibits adenylyl cyclase through inhibitory G-proteins.
This receptor is expressed in phylogenetically older regions of the brain, suggesting that this receptor plays a role in cognitive and emotional functions.
It is a target for drugs which treat schizophrenia, drug addiction, and Parkinson disease.
Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants that would encode different isoforms, although some variants may be subject to nonsense-mediated decay (NMD).

Load ~100-400ug of membrane protein/lane to visualize the receptor band
ELISA: 0.5-1ug/ml (1ug/ml immunogen peptide/well)
Immunohistochemistry: 2-10ug/mL.
Suggested fixative is 4% PFA, fixation 10-15', permeabilized with 0.3-0.5% triton X-100 for 10-15' (tissue, less time for cells), primary antibody dilution is 1:100 for direct fluorescenceOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability:May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
