The neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) gene-encoded protein, merlin, is related to the ERM (ezrin, radixin, and moesin) family of membrane-cytoskeleton-associated proteins.
Merlin localizes at the adherens junctions and physically interacts with their components in confluent cells, suggesting that merlin normally controls adherence junctions assembly and contact-dependent growth inhibition directly from the sites of cell:cell contact.
Merlin interacts with a number of protein partners and inhibits many growthsignal pathways when over-expressed and thus strongly related to cell transformation and tumor development.
Mutations in the NF2 gene encoding for merlin protein are associated with neurofibromatosis type II which is characterized by nervous system and skin tumors and ocular abnormalities.
Applications:Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence and Western Blot.
