SNARE-associated protein Snapin, SNAP Associated Protein or Biogenesis Of Lysosome-Related Organelles Complex 1 Subunit 7 (BLOC-1 Subunit 7) is encoded by the gene SNAPIN.
Snapin is a member of the BLOC-1 complex, which is involved in the protein-sorting, membrane biogenesis, and vesicular trafficking.
Snapin is required for vesicle docking and fusion and regulates neurotransmitter release.
Snapin is expressed in many tissues including heart, brain, testis, kidney and liver.
Diseases associated with this gene include Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome and Tricuspid Valve Stenosis.
