Toll like receptors are a family of pattern-recognition receptors involved in the activation and regulation of inflammatory and immune responses activated by invasion of host tissues by microbial pathogens.
TLR2 plays a role in a range of infections including gram-positive bacteria, mycobacteria, and yeast.
It is activated by PAMPs, signals to NF-kappa-B which in turn induces cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response.
This clone was used to characterize the expression of porcine TLR2; cells of the innate immune system - monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes, but not on peripheral blood lymphocytes were found to express porcine TLR2.
Swine neutrophils express low levels of TLR2.
It is also expressed on epithelial cells lining the tracheobronchial and intestinal tracts, bile ducts in the liver and renal tubules, and on the basal layer of the epidermis.
