Ubiquitin is a small protein composed of 76aa and having a molecular weight of 8.6kD.
It exists in all eukaryotic cells and is responsible for numerous functions in the cell by post-translational modifications of substrate proteins (ubiquitination).
This process is important to numerous cellular processes including, but not limited to, apoptosis, cell cycle and division, DNA transcription, immune response, modulation of cell surface receptors, and viral infections.
