PDPN (podoplanin) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of mucin-type character.
The specific function of this protein has not been determined, but its homologs in other species were described as differentiation antigens.
PDPN can be used as a marker of lung injury.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
