CRP (also known as cAMP receptor protein) is a regulatory protein in bacteria.
CRP binding to cAMP leads to conformational changes in CRP resulting in a dramatic increase in its binding to specific DNA sites near the promoter to regulate the transcription of several catabolite-sensitive operons.
The protein induces a severe bend in the DNA and acts as a negative regulator of its own synthesis.
